"I like complicated things!" And with pottery Elisabeth Petit-Brighigna certainly chose the right path. "For this art you need to master a large number of parameters: drawing, engraving, working clay, drying, firing, enamelling..." A passion that has been earning her bread and butter for 12 years now. "When I was 30 I decided to change direction and at last realise my dream of going to art school." So after working mainly in real estate and event organisation, Elisabeth signed on at the school of fine arts in Vallauris, graduated, then began her career as a ceramicist. Her favourite form is the pot, small, medium or large, svelte or chubby. "It's an ancient object, one of the first artefacts created by humans; its importance in the history of evolution is primordial." So her creations are meaningful in themselves but that isn't their be-all-and-end-all for they serve as a means of expression for her to produce complex engravings that are intensely coloured and delicately graphic. Each piece is unique, with some requiring more than 15 hours of work. Her signature is also to be found on a collection of rings (essentially for the pleasure of her seven-year-old daughter Capucine) and on purely artistic mural pieces.
