"I discovered home staging when I was over in the United States and thought it brilliant because obvious." So without hesitation Claire quit her work as a restorer for this new adventure, training in home staging and feng shui too. That was the 2010 genesis of her Homangel agency. "You have to realise that 8 out of 10 people can't ignore what they're seeing, so if your living-room is wallpapered with big red flowers, potential buyers will go away feeling they can't buy a house with red flowers on the walls!" Bringing a professional home stager in is therefore a worthwhile investment because it optimises your chances of selling really as well by minimising the margin for negotiation of buyers always on the lookout for the slightest defect to bring the price down. But don't confuse home staging with interior decoration. "A decorator will create an interior to your taste. On the contrary, my job is to neutralise your interior as much as possible so that every potential buyer, from just-marrieds to fifty-somethings, can see themselves in it." Home staging is now much in demand in the United States, Canada and Nordic countries, where it's tax deductible, but French vendors and real-estate professionals are still lukewarm about it. Perhaps they haven't yet understood that it isn't actually about selling but about making people want to buy!
