The latest thing in holiday accommodation has the wind in its sails! Young entrepreneurs Jérôme Hess and Romain Jover incubated their startup at the EDHEC in Nice, drawing their inspiration from AirBnB to set up Boatyng, the first website for hiring out moored boats between private individuals. "It was Marina Baie des Anges that gave us the idea. We figured that all those boats only sail 10 days a year but cost their owners 10% of their purchase price annually. At the same time, millions of tourists are looking for original holiday accommodation beside the sea. So we set out to bring the two groups together on a dedicated exchange platform." And boatyng.com was born. On the website, boat owners input the details of their boat, its availability and the hire cost; potential hirers create a profile then simply hunt out the craft of their dreams. More than a hundred "boatys" – sail boats, motor yachts, large and small craft – are already listed in the PACA region. After reaching the finals of the Nautic Startup Contest at the Paris Boat Show and winning overall at the first Startup Weekend Tourism in Sophia-Antipolis, this Riviera firm already has its tiller set for Europe's biggest marinas!
