"I'm a tailor's son and at the same time a footballer." A gene pool that Albert Goldberg, founder of Façonnable and the chic sportswear label Albert Arts, has yet again valorised by creating a new shirt collection, World Colors, to be launched for the World Cup. "For me that's an important sports event. I still remember my first World Cup, in 1958, when the youngsters of my generation, and the entire world, discovered Pelé. He became our idol!" But World Colors isn't just about football, above all it's a tribute to sport as a whole. "The World Cup is special but there are other great international sporting events all year round: basketball, rugby, skiing…" So World Colors celebrates sporting achievement, but also the sense of patriotism – and how better to symbolise that dual enthusiasm than by using... flags! Yes, national flags are the line's graphic signature, and its designer has elegantly subverted his fashion house's logo – a footballer in a suit and tie – to display various nations' flags: Brazil, France, Germany, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Ghana, Belgium etc. The material chosen is linen, perfect for wearing with jeans or bermudas during the hot weather. And as Albert Goldberg believes in things that last, this collection will join the Albert Arts permanent catalogue.
