Now you can potter about the Med in a solar boat thanks to Guillaume Jacquet Lagreze, who quit his job as a car industry executive in the Paris region to bring his project to fruition. His Sun Sea Rider designed by Polycréatis and launched last June is the first of its kind providing the ultimate in comfort – panoramic and sun decks, table, ice box, USB connections, WiFi etc. – and safety. “Because it's a catamaran design, this easy-to-helm boat can carry up to eight people and deal with most weather conditions and winds of up to Force 6. Its electric engine takes it to 6 knots, the same speed as a sail yacht,” Guillaume explains. His mission? “Give customers what they're looking for in terms of sustainable development by offering an ecological way to sail without noise, smell or CO² emissions.” And because he wants to make sailing more accessible, this man of the sea has introduced a self-service system for his Boat Club members: “Based on the Auto Bleu electric-car-share system, it lets them book online and unlock the boat with their smartphone.”
