Serena Williams's 46-year-old coach, who founded the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Montreuil in 1996, is making headlines again having opened Europe's biggest tennis complex. Constantly on the look-out for fresh challenges, Patrick Mouratoglou wanted to do something really BIG in a sunnier, more accessible region, so decided to move his eponymous tennis academy to the Sophia-Antipolis technology park. The place is utterly amazing, with 34 courts in clay or resin (10 covered), 2 swimming pools (one racket-shaped), 4 paddle courts, gym suites, a campus for tennis-and-study students, a 160-room hotel and a state-of-the-art medical centre (oxygen chamber, cryotherapy). Patrick's ambition is equally impressive: "To become the go-to centre for top-rank international players, build a school for students from all over the world, accommodate the talented young tennis players financed by the Champ’Seed foundation, host tennis business events, launch new tournaments, work with the Fédération Française de Tennis and – who knows? – hopefully become THE temple of world tennis!
