After taking his Hairspa concept around the world, the king of custom hairstyling has now unpacked his scissors at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo.
Smiling eyes, friendly approach and an innate sense of style. Fifty-six-year-old Rossano Ferretti is something of
a living myth to the beauty-conscious. The famous hairstylist recently opened his newest Hairspa (100m²) in the heart of Monaco. "When I invented this concept I transgressed all the laws of business. Imagining 'private apartments' on upper floors, I decided to bank not on location but on destination. I already knew women would seek us
out because we offer not just a cut but a complete experience." With over 20 salons around the world today he has proved his point. Intent on respecting his clients' confidentiality, he systematically eludes questions he considers indiscreet. From Claudia Schiffer to Kate Middleton, Rossano Ferretti has cut the hair of the loveliest women on this planet. His first model? His mother of course! "I was 14 when la mamma – herself a hairdresser – asked me to cut her hair. She had a tiny hairdressing salon with two chairs in a village of 500 inhabitants outside Parma. A vocation she undoubtedly inherited from my grandfather, a travelling barber after the war."
Il Metodo Rossano
Like a violinist with his bow, Ferretti wields his scissors and dances an amazing choreography around his model, using his whole body to style the hair. Truly "obsessed with women's beauty" as he claims, he has perfected his own technique, Il Metodo Rossano. "I realised that most women wash their hair after leaving the hairdresser. They feel over-styled, disconnected from themselves. The principle behind my method? Respect the nature of the hair, how it falls and waves. You leave my salon as you, but improved!" And to ensure a successful cut every time, Ferretti believes it's vital to build a close relationship with each client. "Me, I must know everything about your life! Your beauty isn't just about your hair, it's above all about harmony, proportions. To be a hairstylist I have to be a psychologist, because a woman who feels beautiful is a happy woman, and a happy woman makes for a fulfilled couple!" Without a trace of modesty, he concludes in his delightful Italian accent: "Me, I'm the man who changed hairstyling! I didn't start a business, I made my life a mission: I was born to make women happy!" You can't argue with that.
