"In 2012 I decided to hang up my bodyguard's headset and uniform and devote myself to my passion for photography." A seemingly unexpected turnaround but in fact it came naturally to Alon Assouline – alias Sabralon – to devote his sense of detail and observation to photography. Born in Jerusalem in 1975, he spent time in the Israeli army then specialised in personal security. For 18 years he acted as the eyes and ears of important Russian and American families, before taking up street photography. Now focused on seizing the immediacy of the moment, it's armed with a smartphone that he patrols the streets of our great metropolises (from Paris to Tokyo where his work is exhibited at the Peninsula), capturing in the moment the energy of the people who every day pound the pavement. After living for two years in New York, he has now opened an art gallery in Vallauris. This 80m² space functioning as a photography studio (available to rent) and a centre of artistic expression presents his work in temporary exhibitions. Until 15 June there's a big retrospective on his US years, and a chance to discover Point of View, his first "smartphotography" book.
