 FRANCL CANNES

"I intend to live 1000 years!" Marc Francl certainly has ambition! And if you're out to live a millennium, it's best to get the conditions right, which is why 10 months ago he opened his own gallery, unlike any other as profoundly personal. "I don't want to create a place that's silent, fixed and pristine, I want socialising and cultural interaction." Refusing to be labelled, Francl intends to exhibit anything from street art to pottery, figurative to abstract. He's very knowledgeable about antiques too and distinctly eclectic in his tastes, so he aims to make his gallery feel like a "collector's study" by (eventually) having contemporary artworks – Monika Grycko's busts, Philippe Pasqua's marble vanities, Miguel Paredes's urban-art canvases – rub shoulders with antique pieces such as Renaissance bronzes, Tibetan headdresses and African jars. In the meantime, you're well advised to take in his latest exhibition on French figurative artist Yannick Fournié, notably known for his Incognito series on wrestlers' masks.
