His Tropezian sandals are 90 years old this year, the family business having started in 1927 and been carried on by several generations. Like the footwear he crafts, Alain Rondini is authentic, talking of his craft with unfeigned passion. In his shop and workshop he is backed up by his nephew Xavier and a dozen employees, all working by hand to prepare the French leathers, stitch the soles and assemble the footwear. These artisans have shod Colette, Marlene Dietrich and recently Inès de la Fressange and Kate Moss. So Alain’s sandals continue their forward march, step by step, beautiful, natural, genuine.
