As a child she drew on the walls of her home in Romania. "So they put up posters to hide it!" the pale-eyed brunette laughs mischievously. Forceful but sensitive, serious yet light-hearted, a free spirit who is ultra-organised, Lucia Marcu blends the alternating facets of her personality delightfully. But it isn't herself she wants to draw attention to, it's the 30-odd photographers, painters and sculptors already showing in her Martin Sauvage Gallery*. So who is the enigmatic Martin? "He's just my pet cat!" the young gallerist laughs. After arriving on the Côte d’Azur aged 17, Lucia ended up as sales and customer service manager at Les Galeries Lafayette in Cap 3000. "I learnt a lot but art was always what excited me," this workaholic admits. So after thinking long and hard she decided to give her job up to start an online art gallery that launched late last year. "Since then I've been organising bespoke events and in June I'm launching a tax-deductible artwork-hire service for businesses. Her creed: promote local creativity internationally, take it to Paris, London, Berlin, New York. "I have to be drawn to an artwork, but also to the artist's personality. I like art that exudes happiness but also the quirky, the bizarre." And she quotes Oscar Wilde: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
