"When I show a gem I see a landscape, a track, a village, smells, people…" Didier Frediani isn't a poet whose creativity is stimulated by a diamond or emerald, he's simply plunging back into the memories of his numerous trips all over the world in the last 30 years, looking for treasures. For this man is a seeker of precious stones, one of the best known and most highly reputed internationally. In France his finds are to be seen in upwards of 1500 jeweller's shops. Diamonds, naturally, although Didier prefers purple sapphires or pale yellow spessartite garnets, the rarest. His Nice jewellery shop has been on the same street for 70 years as he's the third generation to practice this profession. Inside it you discover the Earth's history: a fossilised dinosaur egg, a geode holding liquid several million years old, a shooting star that fell 110,000 years ago... of course only the last is available to be transformed into a pendant or wedding ring! For Didier isn't only a gemstone wholesaler, he himself creates jewellery in an elegant, minimalist, contemporary style with detailing that makes every ring and necklace totally unique, crafted by hand to your specifications right there in his studio. Didier is a high-added-value artisan, imbuing each piece with meaning. In a world too often content with labels, that feels good.
