Sunny, sensual and spontaneous, Silva Usta exudes a generous personality reflected in her artworks and her disinterested support for local artists. The Istanbul-born Armenian artist's ultra-positive world is housed in an old coach house on Rue Gounod in Nice, the city she has adopted and loves. She started out as an artisan jeweller and now crafts sculptural modern pieces using Murano glass. "Recently I was accepted by the Ecole Boulle arts and crafts college but in the end chose a course at an Istanbul jewellery school," she laughs. Revisiting age-old techniques, Silva has developed a special connection, humble but liberated, with mosaic. Her erotic prints are deliciously subversive while her large canvases explode with expansively applied colour. Her latest interest? Tattoos, through what those sporting them say about them. And if there's one art-typical alternative venue in Nice it has to be La Conciergerie Gounod adjoining her workshop, where she promotes talented regional artists. Following a personal exhibition-performance that she's taking to Poland for the COP24, the KKF (Keskon Fabrique) connective, a duo that gives everyday objects a second life, is showing from 9 to 17 November. An art and design experience in a friendly ambience.
