The Paris fashion brand is 70 this year and in top form! It's celebrating the anniversary in due style, to include a New York show.
The House of Longchamp founded in 1948 has achieved something few in the luxury world can aspire to: 70 years on it is still an independent family-owned business. Today in the capable hands of the third generation of Cassegrains – Jean is managing director, sister Sophie Delafontaine is creative director and brother Olivier runs the American stores –, the Paris firm that started out making leather-covered pipes before becoming THE French reference for leather accessories continues its march up the fashion catwalks. After winning fashionistas' hearts with its 'it' bags, Longchamp diversified with considerable success, so that today its product offering extends to collections of ready-to-wear, footwear and eyewear too.
Bold and free
To mark its 70th anniversary fittingly, the company is putting on its first major show during New York Fashion Week, a choice of capital that illustrates its bold, libertarian mindset. It was in the Big Apple too that the brand previewed its very complete capsule collection conceived in collaboration with designer Shayne Oliver and embodied by a choice muse, the sublime Kendall Jenner. Other news? This season the brand is giving carte blanche to French illustrator Clo’e Floirat to stamp her style on the iconic Le Pliage line plus a selection of accessories and leather goods (on sale from November).
