For 144 years the Le Brassus manufacture has been amazing us with avant-garde watches. The latest is the Code 11.59, a worthy successor to the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore.
Audemars Piguet pulled off an ambitious challenge in its latest showing at the Geneva SIHH, putting one name on everyone's lip. That name was Code 11.59, the watchmaker's urban alternative sure to win the hearts of aficionados both male and female, for its 41mm case in white or pink gold states modernity loud and clear and suits both sexes's wrists equally well. At first glance it looks classical and ageless – i.e. round. But up-close-and-personal you see concentrated brand DNA, as in the use of emerging technologies but similarly in the complex geometry embedding an octagonal middlecase between a round bezel and caseback; the octagon dates back to 1917 in the company archives.
Concentrated DNA and modernity
Dial-wise, the logo in thinly layered gold is created through galvanic grow, a chemical process akin to 3D printing. A double-curved sapphire crystal presents an arched profile enhancing the watch's of-today allure. And make no mistake about this timepiece's horology credentials: the Code 11.59 collection uses no less than six new-generation calibres, three being firsts and all meticulously decorated, plus fabulous complications: column-wheel flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar, skeletonised tourbillon, Supersonnerie minute repeater... something for everyone!
