2014 will undoubtedly go down as the year of the 42mm Royal Oak Offshore, for whose launch the watchmaker is organising a grandiose event in Monaco. Read all about it!
Nowhere is too classy for celebrating Audemars Piguet's latest products, not even Monaco's heliport pad where on 24 July the watchmaker is hosting a big function to which it has invited 350 friends and clients. The programme? First a welcome speech then these privileged guests will discover the six watches in the new Royal Oak Offshore 26470 collection, plus there will be an originally designed retrospective chronicling the chronograph's various evolutions. The soirée christened Go Offshore and orchestrated by brand CEO François-Henry Bennahmias will have masculine sport as its theme. Already coveted, the latest Royal Oak Offshore is more than a match for its forebear launched in 1993, whose 42mm-diametre size it retains as being ideally dimensioned to show off its sculptural aesthetics and perfect its sporty look.
An all-modern chronograph
Six new versions have joined the family of iconic chronographs. The same rebel spirit, the same avant-garde conception, the same power case... the big 2014 innovations are mainly aesthetic. Crown, crown guard and big pushpieces have been redesigned to make them more modern. Black ceramic replaces rubber. The bezel in steel or pink gold is held by the eight hexagonal screws that are this best-seller's signature. The dial decorated with the Méga Tapisserie pattern specific to the Royal Oak Offshore collection is made lighter by new faceted hands and polished decorative outlining around the luminescent hour markers, the counters, and the date window whose disc is colour-matched to the dial. The chronograph sits on a rubber or alligator strap or a pink-gold bracelet and the wearer can now admire its engraved 22ct-gold rotor weight through a sapphire-glass caseback. In addition to the hours and minutes it has a small seconds and date. Connoisseurs take note!
