Monaco's Yacht Club never fails to surprise! It has seized on the 14th Monaco Classic Week, from 11 to 15 September, as an opportunity to honour American yachting.
A headline event on the Principality's calendar, Monaco Classic Week this year directs its attention across The Pond. The festivities running from 11 to 15 September will open to America's most famous Sousa march, The Stars and Stripes Forever, played by the Toulon naval military band, a spectacular way of launching this year's event! Notably in attendance will be some of the most beautiful yachts designed by naval architects from early America's Cup races, such as Nathaniel Herreshoff, John G Alden and Edward Burgess. Quai Louis II will host an exhibition of previously unpublished photos by LG Watson, the Scottish architect who designed several of Sir Thomas Lipton's Challengers, and an American Village will spotlight the USA's maritime heritage. On the water we're in for a fabulous display of craft ranging from dinghies to majestic sail yachts, with all eyes riveted on the often hard-fought races between metric-class classic yachts, schooners from the International Schooner Association, and a fleet of all-wood Chris-Craft motorboats built for the American lakes.
