Green Tech Prize Battery-temperature management system for electric scooters
One of the downsides of electric vehicles is still their limited mileage, often no more than a few dozen kilometres, due to heavy, bulky batteries that are liable to overheat. This is particularly true of two-wheelers. To tackle this problem, Eccity has developed an innovative battery management system for its scooters: airtight metal case to enable optimum heat management, battery protection above a certain temperature, hydrophobic membranes ensuring air circulation (whether the scooter is moving, stationary or switched off) and boosted ventilation to maintain a consistent internal temperature. Users consequently benefit from the cheapest power on the market (€1.60/kWh against €2.27/kWh), 40% more power than from competitors (5kW instead of 3kW), and a maximum range of 100 kilometres. The scooters are equipped with a totally passive system, avoiding the use of costly electronic solutions that make them heavier.
