This house near the small village of Sclos de Contes, not far from Nice, stands below an old road, on a sloping west-facing plot comprised of several tree-planted terraces. The original building was a one-up, one-down cottage backed up against a terrace wall. The extension takes the form of two blocks of roughened white cement that emerge out of the ground and wrap around the cottage. The main part is set back from the old building and houses a double-height living room and a simple link to the original cottage, now renovated and transformed. The smaller second part serves as a light well for an open-air shower. The house is generously glazed on all four sides so as to benefit from the light and natural surroundings throughout the day and in all seasons. The cottage and extension are connected by an empty space with a large glass door giving access to the exterior, blurring the distinction between in-doors and out.
