The new museum is housed in the Hôtel Saint-Vianney, a mansion dating from the early 20th century, right in the centre of Le Cannet. The general layout is typical of such places, the main building standing at the back of the grounds with a series of raised flower beds setting it off and creating the transition between street and museum, exterior and interior. The prime aim was to ensure the museum would be extremely functional while preserving the spirit of the place, connecting the museum with the town and creating an urban landmark that signals something special. This was just one part of a project for completely restructuring Boulevard Carnot. The internal layout was specially designed to reflect the intimate nature of this painter's work.
