For its new residential development in Nice Méridia, the Ideom group called on world-famous architect Jean Nouvel to deliver homes that chime with nature.
Nice Meridia is a diverse district that reconciles city living with economic activity, where hotels, businesses, shops and sport and leisure facilities coexist successfully with housing. Public transport makes travel easy, pedestrians and cyclists enjoy extensive dedicated spaces. Montpellier-based property developer Ideom, who specialises in affordable new housing, chose this third-millennium urban showcase as the setting for a 17-floor residential block bathed in natural light and hung with greenery. Named Pléiade and designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel with the help of Raphaël Renard of Mars Architectes and landscape designer Alain Faragou, it is scheduled for completion by late 2018.
Excellently appointed, affordably priced
The building, standing in a small garden, will be essentially white but brightened up by touches of colour on its frontage. It will comprise
81 contemporary apartments of two to five well-proportioned rooms, with extensive open views over green spaces that look different from every angle. The broad terraces have been designed as additional living spaces so as to benefit fully from our region's wonderful climate.
Energy saving and efficient
The apartments all benefit from horizontal or hanging gardens. Access is via external gangways with panoramic views out over the Var Valley, with individual entrance ways ensuring residents' privacy. The Pléiade is an ecoresponsible build in terms of materials employed, water processing and harnessing the sun's power. An innovative development that will be appropriately emblematic of the Nice Meridia district.
