An urban redevelopment is set to completely transform 2 hectares of town-centre land.
"This project concerns the Marenda-Lacan integrated development zone [ZAC], in the heart of the city so of strategic importance for the town's development. It will deliver a diverse spread of well-appointed homes in an ambitious but contextualised architectural style. A modern cinema integrated into its surroundings plus a shopping mall with well-known brands complementing those already established in town will create new dynamics that will benefit the entire town centre," enthuses BNP Paribas Immobilier's publicity manager in Nice, Jean-Baptiste Rachou Peraldi, with justifiable pride since this is truly an emblematic project for Antibes. Two-plus hectares are to be redeveloped by architects Brenac & Gonzales, François Leclercq and Frédéric Ducic. The buildings' outer façades will blend in with the Old Town while the inner ones will be given a more modern identity. The project is essentially intended to strengthen the town's commercial base, boost functional diversity (shops, Post Office, schools, etc.) and redevelop the area in an environmentally sustainable way. The ambition is to obtain the EcoQuartier (ecodistrict) label, notably by using heat from the Vauban wastewater treatment plant for energy needs and rainwater for watering. Completion in 2020.
