Here’s a brand new Riviera art gallery to discover, belonging to Michel Rabanelly, aka Raba. A lovely little place where the Moroccan-born artist, a graduate of Nice’s Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (the same year as Moya), has installed his studio. After working in advertising, since the 1990s Raba has developed a joyous figurative oeuvre in which clichéd contemporary images confront art history. “As with television that switches from one idea to another and mixes images, commentary and text together,” explains this colourfully-bespectacled artist. His present preoccupation is indeed with letters, words and phrases that challenge us humorously, the leitmotiv of the four exhibitions by other artists that
he will host each year.
