Bente Skjøttgaard’s sculptural ceramics incite us to mull over an ecology where tragedy hides insidiously behind marvels of material and form. In this particular drama the object of our fascination is the ctenophore, the invasive, predatory, destructive comb jelly. The Danish ceramicist’s approach is not unlike that of Gauguin, who envisaged his ceramics along the lines of biological growth processes.
