Straight off, the title of art duo Hippolyte Hentgen’s exhibition evokes an improbable quest, if not public indecency or perhaps a banal fashion accessory invested with a superpower. In their imagined museum mixing grotesque and refined, organic and inorganic, they deploy draughtsmanship of every shape and form. Shunning hierarchies of genre, this pair manipulates avant-garde, cartoons, animation drawing, simple illustration and press penwork, mischievously updating works by key figures in the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain’s collections. A gloriously unrestrained visitation of Riviera stereotypes.
