With a new music director, Benjamin Levy, and prestigious guests, Cannes’s orchestra this year explores an infinitely rich musical heritage while at the same time venturing off the beaten track. The 2019-2020 season gives pride of place to piano compositions by Chopin, Rachmaninov, Mozart, Beethoven and Poulenc, touches on contemporary composing with Alain Fourchotte and Baptiste Trotignon, and brings us three big events focused on dance, the East European repertoire, and film music. The first high point comes on 20 October at the Théâtre Debussy when Chopin’s Concerto n° 1 for piano and orchestra featuring pianist Francesco Piemontesi opens the Cannes season.
