Antibes’s new exhibition space offers a fascinating counterpoint to the Paris retrospective on Hans Hartung. A leading proponent of abstract art, Hartung lived from 1973 until his death in the Antibes villa now housing the Hartung Foundation. The artist constantly reinvented his aesthetics and techniques hallmarked by very expressive non-figurative free forms, and he had a particular liking for multiples created from a single original. He mastered engraving too and produced some seminal posters.
