To mark the Sporting's very special 40th anniversary, its world-renowned pop and rock festival is this year hosting an exceptional line-up of international stars.
With a packed programme of more than 30 concerts, the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival is among the biggest live music events in the world. And this season’s edition is extra special because the Sporting, where all the concerts take place, is celebrating its 40th birthday – the age of maturity, as the Société des Bains de Mer's creative director, Jean-René Palacio, explains: “The festival line-up includes artists who are part of our history as well as the hip young generation.” An eclectic array of pop, rock and folk artists, including the hottest new stars, performing until 23 August in the intimate setting of the Salle des Etoiles.
The festival features classic crooners such as the romantic Julio Iglesias (9 August) and the UK's Tom Jones (16th) whose string of hits are among pop music’s all-time greats. A magnet for well-known international artists, the festival also welcomes such pop legends as Boy George (2nd), the band Texas (8th) and boogie rock stars Status Quo (4th) for the chicest gig of their career! This season gets audiences on their feet literally too, with standing concerts by Neil Young (7th) and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (20th).
Blockbuster shows
The programme also includes performances by Laura Pausini (15th), Renzo Arbore, Tarkan (22nd) and the indomitable Bryan Adams (5th) on his Bare Bones tour. As every year since 1957, the Salle des Etoiles also hosts Monaco's traditional Red Cross Gala on 1 August. The Sporting's stage will pulsate to the guitar rhythms of the Gipsy Kings (6th) and the melodies of the Elvis & Friends show (11th and 13th). The festival dinners are accompanied by live music from the Sporting Summer Band with Justin Caldwell and Erin McCarley. And with firework displays over Larvotto Bay, this summer’s festival promises, as always, to be a sophisticated festive event.
