For the last four years Denis Castellas has lived in both Nice and New York. At the Chagall Museum until 6 October he’s now showing his recent paintings inspired by American “feelings and impressions“ – a bookshop he visits regularly, a shop that makes rubber stamps near his local baker’s, etc. After 40 years creating, the Nice artist notes that “successful paintings come about by chance, they make themselves,“ and only “poetic force and sincerity make the difference“. A collection of objects made in the 80s-90s completes the exhibition.
