Femmes fatales
In addition to collections dedicated to Oceania and pre-Columbian America, the Cannes museum houses an immense painting by Artemisia Gentileschi, one of the leading figures of Caravaggism. The restoration of the piece is at the centre of this exhibition, which highlights two destinies: that of the artist, who had to fight to have her talent recognised in the very masculine 17th-century artistic milieu, and that of the biblical character Judith, who decapitated the Assyrian general Holofernes before he could invade her village of Bethulia.
