Le Comte de Vaudreuil par Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun lors de la présentation de l’exposition au Musée du Lambinet.
Nice’s emblematic civil baroque building invites us to explore the art of portraiture in the eighteenth century and, by the same token, the society of the time. While official artists painted effigies of Louis XV, Louis XVI and the royal family, many cheaper portrait painters painted notables wishing to enhance their reputation. These faces from the Musée Lambinet in Versailles open a dialogue with the museum’s permanent collection that includes portraits of the Dukes of Savoy and the aristocratic Lascaris family.
