First some figures: 25 years in existence, 15 years in residence in Grasse, 10 shows created for the town’s theatre. In the process the company has become Système Castafiore, still run by its joint founders: Brazilian-born dancer and choreographer Marcia Barcellos and conceptualist and musician Karl Biscuit who trained with Pierre Schaeffer. A troupe unlike any other, which puts on unique, singular shows that mix dance, original music and sound installations made up of fragments of radio interviews and film extracts, conjuring up a comic-book/cartoon world. To open the season, Grasse’s theatre pays the company tribute from 14 to 16 October by reprising two of its first shows – Aktualismus and 4 Log Volapük – and staging a new and original 3D ballet.
