Opéra de Nice

Verdi’s Sicilian Vespers

The Italian composer set his opera about the Sicilians’ revolt against the French occupying forces in the 13th century to a French libretto by Eugène Scribe and Napoleon III himself attended its first performance on 13 June 1855 at the Opéra de Paris. Here in Nice it opens the new season, in a concert version in French, on 3 and 5 October, with Marco Guidarini conducting the orchestra and Anna Kasyan, Sophie Fournier, Marcello Giordani and Davide Damiani in the leading roles.
