Photographers Frank Horvat and Denis Brihat were both born in 1928, the first in Italy, the second in Paris, and both presently have big exhibitions here in the South, respectively at Nice's Théâtre de la Photographie et de l’Image (to 15 January) and Toulon's Maison de la Photographie (to 24 January). Both men rapidly progressed from simple reportage to a free-spirited approach to photography, exploring a wide range of paths for half a century now. From the Fifties Frank Horvat reinvented fashion photography, then embraced digital technology from its early days. Denis Brihat, on the other hand, looks at nature with a sensitive but sophisticated eye; his fruit, vegetables, flowers and grasses are anything but "still" lifes, they are life itself.
