The adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Lucrezia Borgia by David Bobée, the young and audacious director of the Centre Dramatique National de Haute-Normandie, left no one indifferent when it was performed last summer at Grignan’s château. His extremely raw, physical production, all “noise and frenzy”, which the actors (from all walks) play out in a big black pool of water, allows Béatrice Dalle in the title role, and her first ever theatre role, to fully express her talent and her investment in the project. She’s as demonic as anyone could wish but unarguably moving. M.S
