His sculptures with their graphic extremities dot the Côte d'Azur's urban landscape. And using that same sculpture vocabulary Bernard Pagès has created works on paper, in parallel, with no thought of commercialising them. When in 1968 he was invited to participate in a publishing project, he made a print of wire netting using clay and linseed oil. That would be the first of an uninterrupted series now being shown for the first time in this exhibition at the Picasso Museum. Pagès collects natural and salvaged materials ranging from tree branches to corrugated iron then translates them into black or colours by means of pressure. The underlying idea is to imperil the paper, push it to the limits of its resistance, in order to open up so-far unexplored artistic spaces.
