Although concerts by great musicians on Basilique Saint-Michel's esplanade have contributed considerably to the Menton music festival's international renown, there's more to it than that. This 66th edition, dedicated particularly to the violin, welcomes prestigious musicians such as Pinchas Zukerman, Fabio Bondi, Franco Fagiolo and Fazil Say, but also provides an opportunity to enjoy music from different, less formal and intimidating, angles.
So the 6pm concerts at the Musée Jean Cocteau and the (free) Fringe Festival are equally good reasons to check out a fine programme that for the circumstances mixes bel canto, Russian melodies, Baroque music and the Romantic repertoire.
