Every summer this wine-tourism destination just half an hour from Cannes or Saint-Tropez spotlights contemporary art. After Jean-Michel Folon, Sosno, Arman, César and Bernard Pagès, this year Nicolas Sanhes has installed 11 pristine white artworks in the gardens, vines and cellar of this cru classé vineyard. One of France’s new generation of monumental sculptors, Sanhes explores art’s place in public spaces, his preferred medium being metal girders that he welds together to invent strange angular signs. Here, emptiness seems to breathe, creating space that Sanhes considers a material in its own right.
