For his fourth year as the OPMC’s artistic and music director, Gianluigi Gelmetti has devised a programme of 120-plus concerts, including several series: religious music, for young audiences, at Salle Garnier, ”happy hours“. Opening the main season on 20 September, he is conducting the orchestra with the Hungarian Radio Choir in Rossini’s Stabat Mater. Then on the 27th his successor-to-be will lead the orchestra in Respighi’s Roman Trilogy, for as Gelmetti explains: “My young colleague and friend Kazuki Yamada is taking over from me next season, from autumn 2016.” Gelmetti will continue his affectionate relationship with the Orchestra as honorary conductor.
