Gottfried Honegger, who died earlier this year, was a leading proponent of 20th-century concrete art. Following the recent retrospective on him at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Espace de l’Art Concret presents an original ‘confrontation’ between the early work and last creations of this artist whose fascinating evolution took him from figurative art in the 1930s to a highly pared formal abstraction. An exhibition that tells us how Honegger adopted a geometrical vocabulary before tackling space and thereby starting a dialogue between painting and sculpture.
