Moussa Sarr’s work explores otherness, differences and sociocultural stereotypes. The young Corsican-born video-performer of Senegalese origin is part of the emerging French art scene and his work already figures in collections such as the Fonds National des Arts Plastiques in Paris and Artemis/François Pinault. Playing with his own image, he comments on the power struggles between people using a light, ironic touch, and denounces assumptions by becoming himself a cliché in little scenes devised with humour. From a prayer mat he has created Rising Carpet, a hybrid object both threatening and poetic, one of the emblematic works to be seen at this exhibition also including videos and photographs.
