The Scandinavians don’t just make lovely furniture! Espace Solidor proves this through 12 jewellery artists from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland, whose creations demonstrate exceedingly diverse artistic approaches, tremendous artisan knowhow, complete creative freedom and a strong influence by nature. This is thanks to the schools of fine art where they trained, long reputed for their educational expertise in contemporary design. In Finland, for example, jewellery is taught as design, while Iceland’s professional jewellery school is a reference. “Coming from a volcanic island and living with untouched nature practically on my doorstep has had a huge influence on me. It’s my energy and my source of inspiration,“ states Hildur ýr Jónsdottir, born in Reykjavik in 1976, who is showing an «organic» necklace in porcelain (photo).
