Menton’s headline festivities celebrating 70 years of the Union Méditerranéenne pour l’Art Moderne, founded in 1946 by Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard, kick off with a fabulous exhibition in the Palais de l’Europe’s contemporary art gallery, where you can see Gérard Garouste’s enigmatic canvases, Damien Hirst’s installations, Stefano Bombardieri’s animal sculptures, and mixed-media artist Nacer’s scathing comments on our society. In all, three consecutive exhibitions will mark this anniversary, showing 70 known or emerging contemporary artists in this gallery, at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Palais Carnolès and in the gardens.
