The Maeght Foundation’s collections include some real treasures but its most precious asset is doubtless the building itself. “Some of the Sixties’ greatest artists and writers were involved in its realisation,” explains director Olivier Kaeppelin. “Like Adrien Maeght, who saw it being built, I’m convinced that Sert’s architecture is immensely important: light, open, timeless. (to 9 June) celebrating the Foundation’s 50th anniversary is appropriately devoted to Josep Lluís Sert who designed its home. Models, drawings, plans, photos and films chronicle the stages in a project that led to the celebrated Foundation occupying a masterpiece of 20th-century architecture.
