Grandiose landscapes, portraits of miners, depictions of slag heaps, but also paintings of ghettos and black people’s struggles. This summer Franka Severin has set up her studio in the Chapelle Sainte-Elisabeth and is showing some 30 pieces already exhibited, awaiting exhibition or to be finished there. Severin draws on South Africa for her intense colours, trenchant lines and found materials, creating pictures that reflect her life: big but all about finesse.
