Every summer Opera Gallery Monaco presents a major exhibition of definitive works by great modern and contemporary artists, donating part of the proceeds to the Mission Enfance charity that works for the education of children and peace in the world. This year, Shades of Blue explores the role of blue in art history. A primordial colour from Antiquity to the Renaissance, in the 20th century blue took on fresh significance with Henri Matisse’s cut-out nudes, the invention of International Klein Blue in 1957 and the sea’s fascinating presence in André Brasilier’s paintings. Considered spiritual, blue’s universal nature draws people to together.
