Jan Fabre, Handjesvanger voor der zilverkast, 1978-1979, métal et plastique. 7,5 x 16 x 10 cm.

A small country with big collectors, during the post-war years of economic growth Belgium was home to an amazingly vibrant art scene supported by impassioned art lovers such as Caroline and Maurice Verbaet. Through a selection of works from the couple’s private collection, the Musée Jean Cocteau and Galerie du Palais de l’Europe are showing just how diverse that output was, involving abstract art, the phantasmagoria movement, graphic poetry, luminous vibration, the advent of the object, new figuration and the lust for life. While the museum focuses on sculpture, the spacious gallery hosts large paintings. A panorama encompassing more than 30 artists*.
