This venue perched up in Haut-de-Cagnes has taken on an international dimension with its exhibitions of contemporary jewellery by great artists and talented avant-garde youngsters. Right now Espace Solidor is showing creations by eight New Zealanders. Participating are Warwick Freeman, Lisa Walker and Moniek Schrijer who won the 2016 Herbert Hoffmann Prize in Munich. Alan Preston’s shell-shard pin, Craig MacIntosh’s argillite ring and Areta Wilkinson’s Hei Tiki pendant reveal inspirations intimately linked with nature and Maori culture, while Roy Mason’s leaf brooches are almost disturbing in their realism and Matthew McIntyre-Wilson’s practice combines traditional figured weaving with a more formal training in European gemstone jewellery.
