On the posters for the new stage production of the hugely successful Les Dix Commandements (The Ten Commandments) his name figures alongside those of Elie Chouraqui and Kamel Ouali, because the stylist from Saint-Martin-Vésubie was engaged to reimagine the costumes that Sonia Rykiel designed in 2000. "It was thanks to Pedro Alvez (who plays Aaron) recommending me to the production team for the costumes, a sizeable undertaking that involved recreating 700 garments, along the same lines as the originals, in less than four months." So with his characteristic rigour and determination the 29-year-old designer got stuck in to fulfilling what had been his childhood dream: "As a kid I practised draping fabric over busts while the others played ball. By the time I was 12 I was giving advice to women in the village where my parents have a clothes shop and at 15 I presented my first fashion show. Four years later I launched my Modarosa clothing label." With the show set for an all-France tour, 2017 is looking a busy year. But Benjamin has his priorities covered, he's presently working on the launch of his new collection and with his cabinetmaker father is developing a line of bow ties in wood.
