The Alpes-Maritimes is celebrating the inestimable heritage and treasures of its gardens through a great new event

May 2016 saw the launch of Jardival, a European project for valorising gardens on the French and Italian Rivieras. As part of it, a year later comes the first Gardens Festival spotlighting a unique heritage of remarkable gardens forming an environmental, cultural and historic treasure of the first order. The idea is to promote gardens as places where we can appreciate tranquillity and have our senses stimulated, but also as a response to urbanisation, pollution and climate change. The "main" festival is a competition to create ten 200m² pop-up gardens in five town centres: Cannes (Villa Rothschild), Menton (Jardin Biovès), Grasse (Place du Petit Puy and Place de l’Évêché), Nice (Jardin Albert 1er) and Antibes-Juan-les-Pins (Pinède Gould). The "side" events include tours, entertainment, flower arranging workshops, gardening classes and also tastings, cookery demonstrations, professional exhibitors and a plant market.
